Guests of the Glacier #4: The Man

Both a thug and a bully the Man grew up using people to get by. The ends always justified the means, and if they didn’t then he sold them out. It was really that simple. Everyone who was anyone chased after power and wealth and any other redundancies. To him there was no misdeed if it led to greed. And that was his motto. Whatever had to be done to get ahead would be. If he had to scour the entire globe to find a shiny quarter then he would scour it. And that is exactly how our story began.
The town of Kaltbury was founded on the Man’s findings. It was he who discovered the riches buried beneath the ice and set up this whole encampment to jar them loose. Excavation would be a slow process as he well knew, but it had nearly limitless potential. No one had ever scoured the Frozen Abyss as thoroughly as this operation would take them. Whatever was buried up here he would find it; find it and profit handsomely no doubt. That was his aim, and to accomplish it he had assembled a team of miners, hunters, and a few militiamen who altogether he entitled the Garrison. This was his operation and they were his troops. If anyone was going to strike it rich in this no man’s land it was going to be him, no matter the cost. There was no swaying the Man from his self-centered dreams.                                                         One such dream that was transgressing slower than he would have liked though was his headquarters. It would have gone quicker had he brought a construction crew with like the Beacon had, but even hers was slow going with all its fancy architecture and whatnot. And the fact that he basically wanted a mansion wasn’t helping any. Thus, having few alternatives he found himself a guest at Jazmin’s Tavern just like all the rest. Since beginning his stay he has done little beside talk into his radio to keep in contact with the Garrison. There was no way he was paying for them to all stay at the inn as well. And so he let them sleep in their trucks while he sat inside and pondered what to do. None of the other guests intrigued him in any way. His mind was focused solely on the minerals and how best to turn them into cash. First thing was first though, he had to get them out of the ground. The Garrison had already started clearing the way and tomorrow they would start blasting. He was eager to see what hidden rubies they would find in the process. Unfortunately, it was not just gemstones that were hiding in the ice…
